Why Smart Buildings Matter: Join the Smarter Buildings of Tomorrow Summit

A modern Smart Building lit up with signal pings and lights.

Smart building technologies represent the future of the built environment, leveraging tech to deliver never-before-possible awareness and control of buildings.

In the simplest terms, they use IoT to connect various systems and automate processes to optimise operations like HVAC, lighting, security, and more based on real-time data and environmental conditions.

And, as the world’s leading smart washroom solution, Savortex is spearheading the transition to smarter, more sustainable and business-savvy spaces.

Our upcoming “Smarter Buildings of Tomorrow Summit” is an essential event for anyone involved in designing, managing, or operating the buildings of the future. Hosted by Savortex, this webinar promises to delve into the critical aspects of smart buildings and offer valuable insights from industry leaders.

Savortex is amplifying the conversation around smart buildings for two simple reasons: the business and environmental case is unequivocal.

The smart building industry is set to triple by 2029, driven by the integration of IoT and the push for energy-efficient solutions.

What explains this remarkable CAGR?

One factor is that buildings account for approximately 40% of global energy consumption and 33% of greenhouse gas emissions, so governments are implementing stricter energy efficiency regulations: the EU aims for nearly zero-energy buildings by 2030.

Plus, mandated sustainability targets are increasing – ESG reporting requirements have grown 74% in the last four years.

A shift is in motion as to how we approach—and architect—our built environment, and the clear conclusion is that we need to build smarter.

Smart Buildings: A Sustainability Cornerstone

Arguably, the single most significant impact a new or retrofit smart building can have is around improved sustainability.

Intelligent management systems can drastically reduce energy use in smart buildings – studies show that automating HVAC, lighting, and shading can save 30-50% in energy.

As recently as June of this year, the momentum is building to mandate smart building controls to lessen commercial space’s environmental impact.

Following the recent Future Buildings Standard consultation, the Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) is urging the new Parliament to prioritise the widespread adoption of Class A building controls in new and existing non-domestic buildings across the UK. The Future Buildings Standard regulations aim for highly efficient, zero-carbon-ready buildings. The BCIA, focusing on sustainability, emphasises the critical role of building controls in operational efficiency.

Interestingly, the BCIA, in its recommendations, highlights the importance of recommended reference and scoring for automatic demand control or networked room automation.

They acknowledge that smart controls – such as those in Savortex’s smart washroom solution – deliver automated optimisation through facilities management, consumption prediction, demand response, energy storage and equipment maintenance.

In short, smart buildings help businesses meet sustainability goals, improve ESG reporting, and comply with regulatory requirements.

Smart Buildings are Smart Business

Smart buildings can also help businesses address the spiralling cost of energy: they offer substantial operational cost savings, enhanced occupant comfort, and data-driven decision-making capabilities.

Using sensors to focus energy usage only where it’s needed and reducing consumption in areas not in use (even for specific times of the day), smart tech can help save on unnecessary operational costs.

With the potential of smart technologies to deliver predictive maintenance and real-time monitoring, everything from small tech faults to reputation-destroying crises—like the recent RAAC concrete scandal in the UK—can be identified early and dealt with more quickly—and likely at a lower cost.

And the business case is quantifiable:
a report assessing the sustainability benefits of twelve digital transformation (DX) solutions found that operating smart buildings was the most significant lever for improving sustainability and ESG goals – and making a considerable business impact. (Transforma Insights, 2022)

The Importance of Smart Buildings: The Savortex Summit

The Savortex Smart Buildings summit is about understanding the technology and recognising the broader impact of smart buildings on sustainability, business efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

By attending, you’ll gain insights into the latest trends, technologies, and best practices that are shaping the future of the built environment.

Syed Ahmed, Founder and CEO of Savortex, will share his pioneering vision for smart building technology. Joining him are Nick Wheedon, European and UK Sales Director with over 30 years of experience in large-scale energy solutions, and Kristian Sadler, who brings expertise from his roles at The Shard and The Royal College of Psychiatrists. Their combined experience will provide a comprehensive view of the smart building landscape.
